NVidia 8600GT needs "NoPowerConnectorCheck" option on xorg.conf, same bug as previous releases. 2D fallback fails to bring a graphic environment so the option must be added logging with a textual terminal. Definitely too hard for a newbie.

[Needs hybrid graphics switching support] Blank screen (no GUI) after
installation of NVidia proprietary driver on Sony Vaio Z119GS (#748320)

NVidia Proprietary Driver fails to function at all after installation on Sony Vaio Z119GS (results in blank screen). The machine can not use the GUI at all after installing the NVidia proprietary driver, rendering it relatively unusable. Please see the new bug report I've made (748320) for the exact results of the 'Installation' mandatory testcase. I think this is a specific Sony Vaio Z series problem. So I think it is a different issue to that described by Samsagax/Joaquín in Bug #738789.
All the best, walkerstreet/Daniel

Ubuntu won't finish boot after nVidia proprietary driver install (#738789)

Same bug as before. This time something changed. The installation did not create a complete xorg.conf and I was able to reboot into GUI. After running nvidia-xconfig Ubuntu won't reboot into GUI.

Driver installs and boots fine, but according to step 7, the name of the proprietary driver should be listed in /etc/X11/xorg.conf. That is not the case

There was no xorg.cong file initially. After installation of the Nvidia driver, the contents of xorg.conf are:

Section "Device"
Identifier "Default Device"
Option "NoLogo" "True"

I would have to comment , with a non-internet connected install, I had to enable third party repositories and use synaptic to add the nvidia drives. Not very user friendly, and a newbie would never do this.
