| System wouldn't boot. On the messages displayed as system boots, it reads
"Starting load fallback graphic devies" Fail
"Starting GNOME Display Manager" OK
but it goes no further and just shows a blinking cursor.

| Fallback works correctly after commenting out the 'Driver' line in xorg.conf, which is the fix currently discussed (for jockey) in the comments on bug 522061.
PS also works when removing xorg.conf altogether.

| It tries to load nvidia driver and doesn't fallback on any other driver. I removed xorg.conf and it tried to fallback on nouveau, but nouveau doesn't work with my video card. Due to an old & unfixed bug, I had to crash nouveau when booting in order to load vesa. Although nvidia driver wasn't active anymore, it looked like being active in the "Hardware Drivers". However it worked deactivate & activate in order to switch back to nvidia.

| Fallback fails. X fails to start after reboot.
Same observations as englfc and ubutobi.
Note: my test ubuntu is installed on an external usb drive. Fallback also fails when leaving the ko file in place and booting on another computer, with an non-vidia graphics card. This means that changing the graphics card of a desktop computer would probably break the system.
Until Karmic, fallback did work in this case.

| After moving kernel module, no gui after reboot. Xorg.0.log confirms nvidia driver missing. dmesg gives messages about vesafb. syslog has failure messages regarding gdm. Undoing move of module restores gui.

| I renamed nvidia-current.ko to nvidia-current-backup.ko
-> reboot gdm not started
-> logfile with errors - gdm/custom.conf not found
-> changed to console ctrl-alt-f1 and renamed it back - now restart... only this selfmade fallback worked
