At last! Had to work around Bug #533135.

Installed using alternate CD but still Plymouth froze at boot. Hit ALT,SysReq,K to get to login screen and purged Plymouth. Seems to be working now.

Nvidia GUI config tool disappears from System -> Administration after restarting when hardware driver is installed. This should be considered a serious bug since NVidia card users can not perform most of the configuration options without the config tool.
